In February 2026, we celebrated a remarkable milestone - 100 years of sailing at Wakatere Boating Club.
Over three unforgettable days, members, volunteers, families, and alumni came together for a full programme of on‑water action and on‑shore celebration. We joined forces for the Quiz 100 night, took to the water for a Heritage Race day, dressed up for a formal dinner, and closed it out with a special Masonic 100 race on Sunday - swapping stories and celebrating the people who built our legacy.
We also unveiled our centenary book - the Wakatere 100.

Judy Salthouse remembers
"My earliest memories of Wakatere Boating Club go back 75 years, crewing alongside my father, John Brooke, and my brothers in a Frostbite dinghy. Sundays were spent entirely on the water. I would helm under instruction, and in the afternoon I would crew for those same instructors in serious competition - often just bailing water or stacking to keep the boat upright. Even at the dinner table, sailing continued, with salt and pepper shakers as buoys and cutlery as boats... "
