New Season, New Energy - See You on Opening Day

UPDATE 1230pm Sunday 20 Sept

Club racing and the Club BBQ have been cancelled for Sunday 20 Sept due to the high winds.

Celebrate the start of the 2026-2027 season with a whole club turnout at 11am on Sunday 20th September.

We’re honoured to have Ngahiwi Walker of the Royal New Zealand Navy join us to lead a mihi whakatau - a Māori welcome that’s less formal than a pōwhiri. Ngahiwi is a proud Devonport local and deeply committed to sharing Māori culture within our communities. Many of you will remember him from past Wakatere events, and we’re delighted to have him back with us.

We’ll also be holding a naming ceremony to launch our new RS Quest - the latest addition to our training fleet and a huge boost for our Adult Learn to Sail groups and all beginner programmes.

Straight after the official Opening Day ceremony, members, their families & partners are welcome to join our life members and invited guests for a whole club morning tea. By way of a small food contribution, we ask club members to bring a plate - home-baking or store-bought is fine. Thank you.

Afternoon Opening Day races will be the first two Season Points. Mark your calendars and come prepared for some early wins. Given the windy forecast, the RO will make a call on racing at the 1230pm briefing.

After sailing, members are invited to join the General Committee ashore for a BBQ provided by the club.

Here is the Opening Day schedule -

  • Sunday 20th Sept 2026

  • 11:00 Opening Day ceremony

  • 11:30 Opening Day morning tea - bring a plate!

  • 12:30 Race briefing

  • 13:30 First race start

  • 15:30 BBQ provided by the club. The bar will be open.
