In February 2026, we celebrated a remarkable milestone - 100 years of sailing at Wakatere Boating Club.
Over three unforgettable days, members, volunteers, families, and alumni came together for a full programme of on‑water action and on‑shore celebration. We joined forces for the Quiz 100 night, took to the water for a Heritage Race Day, polished up for a formal dinner, and closed it out with a special Masonic 100 sail on Sunday - swapping stories and celebrating the people who built the legacy we're standing on.
We also unveiled our centenary book - the Wakatere 100. The book is now available while stock lasts.

Judy Salthouse remembers
"My earliest memories of Wakatere Boating Club go back 75 years, crewing alongside my father, John Brooke, and my brothers in a Frostbite dinghy. Sundays were spent entirely on the water. I would helm under instruction, and in the afternoon I would crew for those same instructors in serious competition - often just bailing water or stacking to keep the boat upright. Even at the dinner table, sailing continued, with salt and pepper shakers as buoys and cutlery as boats... "
