2026 marks a remarkable milestone — 100 years of sailing at Wakatere Boating Club.
What began with 21 foundation members on the sandy shores of Narrow Neck Beach in Devonport has grown into a vibrant, multi‑generational community. Originally known as the Wakatere Canoe Club - Wakatere meaning “fast canoe” - the club has continually evolved to embrace faster sailing craft and a diverse membership spanning all ages and stages.
A full programme of centenary celebrations will take place over the weekend of Saturday 28 February to Sunday 1 March 2026 - sailing & social events for members, volunteers and alumni. Keep the weekend free and stay tuned for announcements as we count down to this special moment in our history.
