Wakatere Boating Club is proudly volunteer-run, and we deeply value the time, energy, and expertise contributed by both members and non-members. Itβs thanks to this incredible community that weβre able to deliver safe, successful, and well-organised club events year after year.
This season marks a major milestone - our 100th year! With six regattas already confirmed and a full calendar of club racing, itβs shaping up to be our biggest and most exciting season yet.
Wakatere is opening its arms to volunteers from the wider community. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or simply keen to lend a hand, you'll be supported by our sailing committee, experienced race officers, and class reps. With countless ways to contribute, every role matters. Here is a sample -
Race Day & Regatta Volunteer Roles
On-Water Roles
β’ Patrol Boat Crew: for timekeeping, flag signals, and recording finishing times
β’ Patrol Boat Crew: Skippers and crew to set race marks
β’ Patrol Boat Crew: Skippers and crew for safety support
Support Roles
β’ Tractor Driver: Launch and retrieve patrol boats (club training provided)
β’ Boat Maintenance: Weekday help with upkeep and repairs
Shore-Based Roles
β’ Beach Marshal: Coordinate beach activity on race days
β’ Compound Marshal: Oversee club compound and equipment flow
β’ First Aid: Remote phone contact or onsite support at regattas
β’ Race Radio (VHF): Comms to support race management
β’ Kitchen Help: Assist with food prep and bar service during regattas
