A Family Affair

Yachting New Zealand has a slogan of 'Sail for Life' and that was no better exemplified than at the 2022 Sunburst National Championships at Wakatere. Competitors were aged 7-64 and many of the combinations were family affairs.  National Race Officer Celia Carson ran an excellent regatta in light conditions. In the championship Brooke fleet there were 5 different winners from 7 races, an indication that the competition was tight at the top and at most mark roundings.  Congratu...

Join the Winter Warriors

The Wakatere coaching team will run some fun post-season sailing for Opti Confidence sailors.   This programme is called WINTER WARRIORS and is for our Confidence 1 & Confidence 2 sailors or any club junior who recently finished a LTS course .  Sessions are intended to keep some momentum going with the kids just before it gets really really  cold. It has been a great term, and if the kids don't sail from May-October, they tend to go backwards a little bit, so it's great to ha...

Donate Your Dollars

We were thrilled to be able to host the 2022 Auckland Champs, Windfoil Nationals and Oceanbridge at Wakatere earlier this month. However, with the clubrooms and bar closed, they weren't the social highlights of the year or the fundraisers we had hoped for.   If you were planning to come down and support the sailors, admire the action from the deck or kick back after racing, please consider sending your drink dollars differently. We would like you to donate the money you would have norm...

Masonic Cup Fleet Race

The Masonic Cup is a Wakatere classic as we venture around North Head to the inner harbour. The race was originally sponsored by the former Masonic Tavern and sailors were known to leap ashore on King Edward Pde for refreshments mid-race.  Thanks to the Coleman family for their ongoing support, we can all look forward to a fun & adventurous Wakatere race day. This year we will revert to the single fleet race of old and not run it as a teams event. This is a slight Covid-19 adjustment for 20...
