2026 New Zealand Sunburst National Championship

Sunburst Nationals set to return to Wakatere Boating Club for 2026

Hosted by Wakatere Boating Club, Narrow Neck Beach, Devonport, Auckland, the 2026 Sunburst National Champs will feature 3 fleets:

  • Jack Brooke (spinnaker racing) championship fleet

  • Taihoa (non-spinnaker racing) fleet

  • Cruising (informal non-racing) fleet

Fri 16th Jan - Invitation Race
Sat 17th Jan - Day 1 Championship
Sun 18th Jan - Day 2 Championship

Enter online and follow up with direct banking by 2359 hrs Wednesday 14th January 2026.

About the Cruising Fleet

Join the Fun!
Not ready to race yet? Or just keen to enjoy the event with your Sunburst buddies? The Cruising Fleet is perfect for you! Each day, we’ll meet up and decide on the best destination based on wind and tide. Possible spots include:

  • Cheltenham Beach

  • Rangitoto

  • Takapuna Beach

  • Torpedo Bay

Make it a party on the water -

Bring a waterproof speaker for music
Build confidence while having fun
Fancy dress yourself or your boat

Boat Storage 

  • Boat storage for regatta entrants is available from Friday 16th Jan until the conclusion of the regatta.

  • All vehicles and all road trailers must use Woodall Car Park - it's a free public carpark. The grassed area inside the club compound is to remain clear for sailors and rigging.

  • No visiting boats may remain at the conclusion of the regatta. Refer to WBC boat storage

How to Sign On Sign Off

  • All sailors must sign on/sign off for racing by scanning the sign-on/sign-off QR code posters at Wakatere 

  • Any phone can enter any sailor

  • Helm must name their crew 

  • The sign-on and sign-off QR codes are located inside the club rooms by the kitchen

  • Wakatere Trophy (1st Handicap)

  • Colin & Peter Kettlewell Cup (1st Helm & Crew under 19 years of age at 16th Jan 2026)

  • National Youth Championship Mixed Double Handed Trophy (Helm & Crew under 19 years of age at 16th Jan 2026)

  • NZ Sunburst Association Trophy – Secondary Schools Trophy (1st Helm & Crew, both pupils from the same school on 16th Jan 2026)

  • Muritai One Ton Cup (Highest placed crew with a combined age of 100 years or more).

  • Tony Bouzaid Memorial Trophy (1st WBC female competitor)

  • Invitation Race Trophy – John Brooke painting
