Club Racing

Sail at Wakatere

Narrow Neck is one of the best locations for sailing in New Zealand - with a clubhouse on the waterfront, direct access to a wide sandy beach, and facing the picturesque Rangitoto Channel.

Regular club racing is held on most Sunday afternoons during our season from September - May. We run coaching programmes for our junior & youth classes as well as learn to sail courses for children and adults.

With a family focus, it's not unusual to have different members of one family sailing across a number of classes or parent/child combinations in our 2 handed dinghies.

Classes sailed: Optimist, P Class, Starling, RS Feva, Windfoiler, Waszp, 29er, 420, Laser Standard, Laser Radial, OK Dinghy, Sunburst, Farr 3.7, 470, A Class Cat

Head for the clubrooms when you hear the bell ring for briefing at 12:30.

Race entry

All sailors (members & visitors) must sign on/sign off club racing using the sign-on/sign off QR codes.

This saves volunteer time and speeds up the results process. Your entry details feed straight into the results sheet.

Two-handed dinghy skippers must name their crew.

Any phone can enter any sailor.

Look out for these posters at various spots around the club each Sunday:

  1. Scan the QR code with your phone (this will then link you to a web form)
  2. Enter your name, crew name, class, sail number, member, or non-member on the form
  3. Press "Submit" at the end

Most iPhones and Android phones with the latest software automatically scan QR codes from the rear camera. Or download any free QR code reader application from the Apple or Google Play stores.

Wakatere welcomes visitors to club racing to test the waters and enjoy the vibrant Sunday scene before joining us more permanently.

We strongly encourage membership as we are a volunteer-run club. Join us!
