Sustainability
As Wakatere enters the third season of the club's Sustainability programme, we are more determined to educate, develop, and expand on our initiatives in 2021 and beyond. As a community club, we know we are in a unique position to support change for our beautiful coastal environment.
Sailors for the Sea
Wakatere targets specific regattas by registering with the Sailors for the Sea Clean Regattas for certification. This is the world's leading sustainability certification for water-based events. It assists us to adopt standards and practices that will mitigate the effects of unsightly and environmentally unsafe refuse and it flows on to general practice at the club by setting a benchmark.
The Sailors for the Sea action points dovetail into our club Strategic Document - to maintain and develop the Club's physical environment and infrastructure and to create a strong sense of club consciousness, diversity, and community.
