Youth Learn to Sail December 2019
This Learn to Sail Course is for youths and will run over 4 consecutive days in the December school holidays 2019. A youth sailor is generally 13 yrs+ and missed out on learning to sail when they were younger or are too big to fit an Optimist. Club RS Fevas are provided and will be allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis. The RS Feva is a two-man dinghy and participants will learn to both helm and crew the boat.
DATES: 19th Dec - 12th Dec 2018
TIME: 9am- 3pm each day
TOTAL COST: $430 - this amount includes junior membership for the season 2018/19. The course fee and the membership fee are paid separately.
The course is led by a Yachting New Zealand qualified Learn to Sail instructor and follows the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail curriculum. It is run by the club to allow teenagers to learn to sail, in the hope that they will enjoy the course and then join the Wakatere Youth Feva coaching program.
Sailors must be aged 12 years at the time of the course and must be able to swim 50 metres unaided wearing a PFD (personal floating device) and sailing gear. Sailors will need their own buoyancy aid, wetsuit or warm sailing gear. Sailors will need to be available to attend all of the days of the course to obtain their end of course certificate in order to move onto other Wakatere sailing programmes.
PARENTAL HELP: Whilst we have all the instructors and student help we need on the water, we would appreciate some parent help from 2.30pm each day to bring the equipment up from the beach, hosing down and putting away. In addition some help may be needed on windy days.
