What a fantastic turnout at the RS:X and Techno Nationals at Manly last season.

Congratulations to Harrison Hill for taking 3rd overall youth male.

There were also 13 Technos in the Open fleet and about 16 Green fleeters. We had competitors from Holland, Italy, Korea, Australia and New Caledonia.

Windsurfing National Champs

Trust everyone is enjoying the summer and has settled into routines.

The windsurfing scene has been busy with Techno and RS:X competitors racing in the Junior and Senior Sail Auckland . This year's standard was excellent, check out the associated posts on our Facebook page

Next week Friday 14th Feb - Sunday 16th Feb we are all heading to Manly Sailing Club at Whangaparaoa who are hosting the 2014 RS:X & Techno 293 Windsurfing National Champs and Bic Techno Oceanic Champs.

I'll be running the Green fleet on the Sat / Sun and my focus is to get as many of you new sailors around the marks as possible. It will be very low key including a harbour race so let's get out on the water.

This event will be one of the biggest gatherings of windsurfers for a long time including overseas competitors from Korea, New Caledonia, Australia as well as the current gold medalists and his training friends.

Find the NOR & Entry Form on the Manly HOME page - http://www.manlysailingclub.org.nz/ and keep an eye on the Association Facebook page for more updates during the week

Windsurfing at Wakatere

Wakatere welcomes windsurfers of all ages and ability levels with emphasis on the globally-recognised racing classes of Techno and RSX. The Techno is the international youth racing class for under-15s and under-17s. The RS:X is the Olympic class board on which Tom Ashley won gold for New Zealand at the 2008 Olympics in China.

T293 - World Wide Windsurf Racing for under 17's

The place to start - the beginners windsurfing class is known as the Techno class because the board, sail and rig used is common throughout the world, the T293.
A simple analogy would be to see the Techno as the "Optimist" of the windsurfing classes.

Getting Started

You need your own board, sail and rig. A Techno is preferred to get on the water along with a suitable PFD. Equipment advice is available from our class rep or at nearby Windsurfing South Pacific.
Complete beginners should complete a minimum 10 hours windsurfing coaching at a suitable windsurf school, we recommend Madloop Windsurfing at Lake Pupuke, Takapuna. This is essential before you start windsurfing on the sea at Wakatere.

Training Available

We run club training on Tuesdays from 4.30 - 6.30pm at a very reasonable cost with top class coaches. Contact the class rep, for more information.

Club Sport & Informal Racing

We run informal, club racing on Sunday afternoons, briefing at 12.30pm, first race at 1.30pm at the club just off Narrow Neck beach.

Competitive Techno Racing

There are lots of regattas throughout the season where you have lots of opportunities to sail along with and compete against other Techno sailors. For more details please refer to our club calendar.

Equipment

Maximum value for minimum cost!

The great thing about the under 17 windsurfing class is that there is only one board and rig combination from a single manufacturer, Bic Sport. This makes your equipment selection very simple and ensures you meet all rules and (if you choose) compete on a completely level playing field.
