The 2010 Opti Nationals in Whitianga have been won by Kimberley Lim (Singapore). Jayvee Buchanan finished first NZer in second place. There was an official opening ceremony on Wed 31st Mar and racing began April 1st. Wakatere had a record 32 entries across the open and green fleet. The regatta was plagued by a lack of wind early on which filled in as the series progressed, though the Teams racing had to be cancelled to allow more races to be held. Markus was the top Wakatere sailor in Open Fleet, finishing in 13th position overall, the fourth NZer and gaining a spot in the World's team. Jonathon Weston was top Wakatere sailor in the Green Fleet finishing 2nd. Tim won 1st place for age 13 years (despite the organiser's unfortunate oversight at the prize-giving), also finishing as 14th NZer, quite an achievement in his first Nationals. Hopefully an extended report will be posted in the near future.
