Josh Hyde Takes the Cup
Published 19:54 on 3 Dec 2017
Wakatere Boating Club Opti Open sailor Josh Hyde was announced as joint winner of the overall Sir Peter Blake Trophy at the conclusion of prizegiving yesterday. Shared with Starling sailor Caleb Armit MBSC. This is awarded as the final prize across all classes for top results and outstanding attitude throughout the regatta.
Josh won the Opti Open Fleet with conviction - four guns and a 4th from a fleet of 93 entries. A great result in light and shifty conditions with long periods of waiting on an unexpectedly hot summer weekend. Always staying focused.
Photo (above) is of Josh with both the Sir Peter Blake Trophy and the Americas Cup. A very exciting addition to the afternoon's regatta proceedings. Kindly on loan by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
With a big number of Opti Green fleet entries from Wakatere (for many it was their very first regatta), the club is sure of a strong future fleet of champions.
